I am good at analysing individuals, for example if I sit opposite someone on the train I am usually quite good at ascertaining what they do, or their lifestyle, etc, by observation.

But how can I hone my skills when it comes to whole situations or larger environments? Thanks

Enter a room, take one scan around the room, and then leave. Write down what you observed in the room. Compare after ward. You can do this almost to any event or room, or location if you have a pen/paper or computer handy. Eventually adding color and key characteristics to the list instead of just the object.

Success can be based on your own personal goals of amount of objects or characteristics identified or whatever personal level of detail you want to get used to gathering.

It works, just need to do it often.

Study art and learn to think with an artists eye. I know this sounds funny, but whole brain theory says that we should use both left and right brained processes. Many great thinkers, i.e. Churchill painted while he was comtemplating military strategy.

You definitly sound like a left brained person (nothing wrong with that, I'm one also). Using right brain techniques will enhance you total mental function.

you can hone your skills by being present in the moment listen rather than speak and use your sense of self for all answers.
