Suddenly, overnight, my remote car key fob won't lock my car when it's parked outside my house. It works perfectly when the car is about 100yds down the road. Is this because someone has installed some sort of frequency blocker to stop anyone from using their wireless broadband? Do I have to get my car/key re-progammed? What an inconvenience, if so !
Sorry this is probably more than one question but I would be grateful if someone could advise if they know what's going on.
Thank you for sensible answers.

Doesn't work even when standing right outside the drivers door pointing the key in through the window - couldn't get any closer. The car is only 2 yrs old.

Key fobs use 433 megahertz. Unfortunately so do virtually all walkie-talkies and their base stations. Microwaves, wireless internet &c use 2.4 gigahertz, and shouldn't interfere unless the signal is illegally strong. Has someone nearby, possibly a supermarket, started using radios? Or a new building site, railway works, or whatever A new mobile phone mast?, they can spring up overnight. I find my fob has a greatly reduced range in some places at the Bluewater shopping centre where there are Phone masts and local radio systems all round.

Even with interference present, the strength of the signal increases and should force the remote to work as you walk closer to it where it's parked in front of your house. So for now, simply lock and unlock the car using the fob standing next to your car. You could also get a new fob or battery replacement to increase the signal power from the fob. Also make sure your car battery doesn't need replacing because that affects the fob radio receiver in the car. If it's over 5 years old, you probably need a new car battery or at least should have the battery and charging system checked at your local auto parts store.

it could be interference from another radio source like a wireless network, or even a cordless phone. all you can do is put new batteries in and see if a stronger signal has any effect. or you may be able to extend or move the Ariel for the alarm , if you can find it!.
I would think the frequency of the key fobs will all be the same just different coded signals, and beyond the capabilities of a dealer.

you should have a spare RKE remote, try it, as each remote should use a different frequency, if it works, either start using that one or go to the dealer, get another and have it programed for your car. good luck with your strange problem.

try pointing the remote at the car from different angles ie front /back /corner . it might just be a crap receiver that needs a wider signal

You could try re-setting the key, instructions in your manual.
If that doesn't work its most likely a local source of interference.
