One of my gums, on the bottom of my bottom row of teeth is brown and a little puffy. I noticed that whole end of gum lining hurts when I brush it in the morning. Is it because I was too coarse with my toothbrush and irritated that area?

It's not cancerous is it?

When I run my tongue on that piece of gum (don't mean to be semi-graphic), it is puffed up and in the mirror it is now brownish.

Can I treat this myself?

Try brushing and flossing

If it was just swollen, I wouldn't worry.... The brown color is not a good sign though. You likely have an infection and should try and get in to your dentist today or tomorrow. If you tell the receptionist what is going on, she should be able to squeeze you in.

Don't try to treat it yourself. Go to a dentist, and find out exactly what is happening.

Gargle with peroxide....straight, but don't swallow, repeat as often as you remember.....if it doesn't heal go to the dentist.
