This isn't even close. Barry Bonds is an international celebrity, both inside and outside the game. His celebrity (both positive and negative fame) eclipses the game, just as it does for guys like Pete Rose, OJ Simpson, or Michael Vick.
Barry is known not only for his baseball but also as a posterchild for performance enhancing drugs in sports in general.
Oh, and he is the all-time home run leader as well, which brings celebrity with it.
A-Rod is equally as known as Barry in the baseball world, but his celebrity pales in comparision to Bonds.
It isn't quite as simple as A-rod= famous, Barry= infamous.
Barry is well known in a positive light for skills as a baseball player, despite the steroids. Most view him as one of the best players of all time, and he was a hall of famer before he injected the first needle.
In the future when A-Rod approaches Barry's record the difference may be lessened, , but given that Barry is both famous and infamous as a cultural icon beyond the game itself, he may never become as well known as Barry.
While A-Rod does do some dispreputable things both on and off the field, he would have to do something pretty monumentally loathed things to reach Bonds status.

Barry is well known. ARod will eventually break his record but there has been so much talk about Barry. Even my 5 y/o daughter knows Barry Bonds and we're in Florida. Actually she knows Alex also.
No doubt Barry is more famous.

Infamous or famous, it has to be Barry. Arod for the most part is well known outside of baseball circles, but Barry has achieved such notieriety with the steroids thing, even non baseball people have heard of him. Fame means well known, not a popularity contest, if it was. ARod would be light yrs ahead

Both share in equal popularity but a separate ends of the spectrum. Bonds is infamous for his lack of integrity while A-Rod is famous for his enormous talent.

i like Alex Rodriguez because i think he is more talented than Barry because A-Rod get a home run like, every few games, while it takes like,2 weeks for Barry to get one.

Who is more famous or more infamous? A-Rod is definately more famous. He's a celebrity, parties with celebrities, is in NYC, etc... Barry is definately more infamous with his steroid allegations and bad reputation with fans and media outside of SF.

A non-fan has little reason to know A-Rod, but Bonds and the steroid/HGH/HR Title stories has at one point or another, has been a top story on the news.
