In most cases the currency exchange rate has little to do with the wealth(well being of a nations people) of a country. My first trip to Jamaica in the early 1970's had me paying about 1.20$ US for 1J$, the country was extremely poor. Last time I went there it was 1$US for 46$J and on the streets 1$US to 50J$ and the country had the appearance of a much more prosperous people on the street. Japan has an exchange the is hovering around 105Y to 1$. Inflation is a better indicator of economic strength(Zimbabwe). The average Canadian isn't poorer than the average American because of currency value. The average Canadian is poorer because the Canadian government steals a great deal of the average Canadians income through confiscatory tax policy.

No.

The Canadian loonie is close to parity with the US greenback as of late. This is due to Canada's dollar being a commodities-based currency, which is influenced by the fluctuating price of oil, coal, and other natural resources.

You have to factor in other issues, such as cost of living, economic parity between rich and poor, access to basic services, etc. Never take anything purely at face value.

where did you get the ridiculous idea that Canada is poor or even poorER than the US? they are one of the most prosperous, free, vibrant countries in the world! If you think Canadians are poorer than people in the US, you've never been there! I see a LOT more poverty while traveling around the US than I do in Canada.....by a very long shot! Good grief!

No because the British pound is double the value of the US dollar, but in terms of macro-economics Britain is not as wealthy as the US.

No. Currency valuations are irrelevant. Canada is not as successful because there is too much cold weather there. Much of the country is not useful for anything. The Canadian government is socialist. It is a drawback to freedom.
