King Arthur was betrayed by Lady Guinever because she fell in love with Sir Lancelot, and he returned her affections. That is how she betrayed King Arthur I think.

King Arthur is one of my favorite stories. The legend of Camelot and it's ideals of fairness and equality for all always facinated me.

King Arthur (son of King Uther) married Lady Guinevere (of Lyonesse). Lancelot was King Arthur's "first knight" and champion. Lady Guinevere loved her husband but fell in love with Lancelot. Wars erupted and Kingdom's fell.

Guinevere was Arthur's wife, but he also had an incestuous affair with his sister Margawse and a son Modred by her. Guinevere was the daughter of King Loedogrance of Cameliard (not Lyonesse as someone said. Sir Tristram was from Lyonesse.)who gave Arthur the Round Table as a wedding gift. Eleven kings rebelled against Arthur, and Merlin advised him to make an alliance with two French kings, Ban of Benwick and Bors. The rebels were beaten, and the sons of the French kings joined the Knights of the Round Table. Lancelot du Lac was the son of King Ban and was the foremost of the knights of the Round table until his son Galahad appeared. Guinevere and Lancelot had a discreet affair for years. If Arthur knew, he ignored it. His incestuous son Modred and 11 pals caught the lovers in her bedroom. Lancelot killed all of them except Modred. One was Modred's half-brother Agravaine, Arthur's nephew. Guinevere was tried and condemned to be burned for adultery and treason. Lancelot saved her and killed Arthur's nephews Gaheris and Gareth who were among her guards. The surviving brother Gawain insisted that Arthur make war upon Lancelot who returned home to France. Gawain dueled with Lancelot twice and was beaten. While Arthur was in France, Modred rebelled. Arthur returned, and he and Modred killed each other. It was thus Guinevere's adultery that led to the death of Arthur and all of his knights.

In some versions, a spell was cast on Lancelot and Guinevere to make them fall in love with each other. Lancelot had rescued Guinevere, and both of them were resting for the night in the forest. A spell was cast to get them to fall in love with the first person they set their eyes upon, which naturally was each other when they woke. When Authur found out, he was heartbroken and eventually died. Guinevere retreated to the life of a nun, and Lancelot left, presumably to roam the world.
