I read it in a book once and I just wanted to know what the difference was.

~The space between the "t" and the "N" and the capital "N" in one and not the other. In the 60's both spellings were acceptable and it was decided (mainly by the press) to use the former as universal.

No difference. It is just that some people spell it Viet Nam and some spell Vietnam.

"Viet Nam" is grammatically correct in Vietnamese (w/o the accents of course) and "Vietnam" is how the rest of the world spells it. Refers to the same country.

It's the same. It's been spelled in 2 words during the war now it's been 1 word.
