Ok this is for my aunt and this happened to her today - she was driving her daughter to school and the car in front didn't move for a few mins because the woman was texting so my aunt beeped the horn. The woman began to stick to fingers at her and refused to move, my aunt stuck two fingers back an moved into the other lane to drive. The woman then drove side to her and began to take photographs on her phone of my aunt and her daughter, then drove in front with the gun signal in her hand and mouthed "your dead".

I think she's jsut a psycho but my aunt and cousin (who is only 11) are very shaken. What should/can they do?

Yes my aunt has the woman's registration number. She has gone to the police now.

I agree that in the heat of the moment, returning the V's was not wise - however, how many people if being flicked in traffic, when they are not in the wrong would not respond? I know someone said that is why people get shot these days - sometimes thats true, but does that mean people should be bullied and left in fear by any loser who thinks they are 'Badass'? Most bullies do it because they can get away with it. Like I said, I think it was unwise of her to flick back (in hindsight) but I can't say that if it were me, and the woman in front left a whole row of morning traffic sitting in green because she was texting (and did so after my aunt had beeped - too busy giving the V's to move) that I would sit there placid, like the pious sponge who rises above other people's bratty behaviour.

It's hard to gague how we would honestly react, right? Untill it affects us or someone we are about.

That's all

Go to the police and tell them what happened perhaps? Since you did NOTHING wrong, they'll have your story, and that way if that pyscho lady shows up, they'll see there's already a record account of you guys not doing anything wrong, they'll see what your story is compared to her story, and pick your story (cops are pretty smart to be honest when it comes to stuff like this).

If your aunt has already reported it to the authorities, there isn't much else that can be done.

Responding in kind to someone who is making obscene gestures is almost certain to escalate an annoying traffic problem into road rage.
Your aunt should have not only considered her actions on the other driver, but what type of example she was setting for her daughter as well. She is fortunate that the other person didn't have a real gun.

Pending on the state that you were operating your vehicle in, you could conceivably be charged with Careless Driving, with a slight chance of it being observed as a more damaging Reckless Driving, if the distance was so short that your breaking might have caused an unavoidable collision (which, I gather, it didn't.) I don't know if you have an anger management problem or not, but you should be careful using your auto as a tool for payback. If someone gets hurt (either your target or someone else in another car or in yours) and you cause that injury, you could be arrested and charged with felonies. It's never worth the risk to spite some idiot who you don't know and shouldn't have to ever see again. Also, getting shot by some psycho over changing lanes is kind of ridiculous as well...

Threatening behaviour for one thing by the woman who was texting.

Using a mobile phone while driving. That's an offence in the UK. (She used it to take photos while the cars were in motion, you say).

Your aunt has reported the VRN to the police?

If not, get her to do it. There's no way the other woman will involve them as she was clearly in breach of the law by taking the photos with the phone.

ya it sounds like that lady is just phyco. If you aunt got a plate number and really feels in danger she can go to the police station and file a report. But what nerve of the texter to do that. she should have waved and said sorry or something. People are just getting more and more self absorbed and ignorant.

I would be inclined to think nothing will become of the incedent. However if your aunt and cousin are concerned they should contact the police on the none emergency number and report the incedent. Did they note down the car registration number?

For one thing your aunt shouldn't give the fingers back to
the lady. People get shot for just about anything now days.
Its seems like a no-win situation. Only thing to do was just wait for the lady to move after you beep your horn.

Easy to talk after the event, but she should have taken the registration number of the vehicle and reported the owner to the police for threatening behaviour.

Why do people act the way they do?

Your aunt should have told her daughter to write down the licence plate number of the offending motorist and reported it later.

That sounds a little outrageous, i doubt anything will happen, she'd kill them over a flicked 'V' sign! Unlikely.

Go buy them both an ice cream and talk about holidays and all will be forgotten.
