If it's a fresh dry stain try sprinkling some baking soda on the stain and letting it sit overnight.. Vacuum and see if any of the residue comes out.. It will not harm the carpet. A shopvac is really handy if you have one as it has more suction to reach into the carpet fibers..If that doesn't work.. If you have any use some regular shaving foam.. NOT gel.. and gently work it into the carpet with a soft brush or cloth.. Try to not use too much water or rub at the stain.. Instead blot with a light colored rag/towel.. Repeat using cold water until stain is removed...

Try a 50/50 solution of water and vinegar. You may have to treat several times. How well it will come out depends on what material your carpet is made of.

rent a wet vacuum, and use it on the stain. it works really well.
