Spies by Michael Frayn. Set in war time middle class England from the point of view of two twelve year old best friends. Quite funny, easy to read and very enjoyable. I am not the most avid reader but I think you may like this book.

Any Discworld book by Terry Pratchett. Begin with "The Colour of Magic" which is the first, concerning Rincewind who is a not-very-magical wizard. I prefer the Wyrd Sisters. But my all-time favorite fictional character is DEATH, only Terry Pratchett could give the Grim Reaper heart.
When I want to know about a book, I consult amazon. You can't browse but you can get the general idea of a book by the reviews written by readers.
