I was homeless one night and stayed in the woods, I slept there, slept, HuH!!! I stared at the dark sky all night exhausted, it was 40 degrees and overcast and wet. I had two pairs of pants, several shirts and I was still cold because I was wet.

It was scarey. Most people are not homeless by choice. ANd if anyone believes they can just life themselves up by the bootstrap is probably just trying to either ease their consciousness or are scared that may happen to them, so by believing homelessness is a moral failing, and surely we are not immoral, so we won't be homeless ever, It relieves anxiety about it.

Some people are homeless by choice or because they are irresponsible. But not most.

I was homeless and suffering from depression. Only for about six months until I started receiving Social Security disability. I live in Northern California. I have 3 roommates and only one speaks English. We share all bills. Without this help even with SSI I would probably still be on the street, because it is cheaper to live on the street when you don't know where your are going to sleep or how you are going to get food. A lot ( I would say the majority ) of people put or thrust into this situation would end up just giving up. I worked for 47 years. When everything fell apart I just had to find a way around it. I did with the help of my niece, but everyone can help someone else if they have the chance. I came out okay and I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt to anyone else who really wants to do better and I will help them as much as I can too.

Being homeless is traumatic, especially for children. Unfortunately there are so many people that have no concern for others even if they were to experience what it is like first hand they would not find any compassion for others! They are soulless ones that have virtually no humanity left in them! There are many that are in situations that no one would want to be in and they are there not because they have failed to do their part but because this society only makes demands and takes for the most part. It is possible to do all the right things and find yourself part of the homeless crowd! Show some compassion people and help at least one other person, because you will be helping yourself!

I wouldn't allow myself to become homeless. I have severe injury's and a couple of heart attacks and I didn't let anything stop me. I don't believe in sympathy. You failed to mention what your disability is. I have had a bad back, a bad knee that I couldn't walk on, so I had to drag it using my good leg. I would never allow my self to become homeless. I put in 31 years with the same employer and I was able to retire. People don't have motivation.

Being homeless for even a day means nowhere
safe (or comfortable) to lay your head when you're
exhausted—and you're always exhausted—
struggling for hours to find a place to accomplish
the very basics of living, like relieving yourself, etc.

Being homeless for even a day is trauma—If
people realized just how traumatic it is, they
would be far more compassionate, there would be
a public outcry, and homelessness would end. ♥

You are living in the wrong society in the wrong country in the wrong planet. They call it survival of the fit. I believe that one day people in your position will never complain about it
