'con' is a system file name which is reserved. So you cannot create a folder under this name. There is a was to do it BUT it is totally useless as you will never be able to put anything into it...out of interest you would create a batch file for this purpose...so the short answer is that you must choose another name for the folder. If 'con' is someones name why not try Con's Folder or something else similar. You could also type the name as 'con con'. Unfortunately you will just have to use a bit of imagination. But it also shows how frustrating windows can sometimes be!!!

There are reserved words which cannot be used for variable or folder names as they are ready have a meaning to the operating system or programming language being used at the time. If you were allowed to use a reserved word or otherwise force its usage you will most likely have problems as your system won't be able to distinguish between the variable you defined and a piece of hardware for example.
CON is a reserved word and it referrs to your monitor (CONSOLE) just like PRN referrs to a printer and COM to a communications port.
If you created a folder called CON and tried to save a file your computer might get confused and send the file to the monitor for display and not save it to a folder as you intend.

Con is a system command or file name in windows so you cannot create any file or folder with that name in windows. However you can create the same using DOS.

Oh give up already, try PRN for a change.
All reserved words don't work.
And no you can't dos it in dos either, but at least it gives you an error message
