Lordy - hundreds of people - I had a roomful. Husband (not a lot of use, passed out as soon as he saw the epidural needle) anaesthatist, paediatricians x 2, midwives, surgeon, loads of theatre assistants, a couple more midwives, I think Ant and Dec were there too - and a couple of contestants from Big Brother.
To be honest, I have no idea. Had an emergency c-section and was totally off my head on gas and air then paralysed from the neck down by the epidural. Dreadful experience.

With my first I had just my partner (our family lived 2000km away) and also my doctor who dropped in and did paperwork at the back of the room unbeknownst to me for hours!!, also my midwife who stayed past her shift, the next shift midwife and a trainee midwife! The midwives were all friends of mine as we lived in a very small town and they wanted to stay because they knew we had no-one else with us. All in all 5 people plus me!
With my second it was in a large city hospital so I had my mum and partner and then a midwife for the last hour and a 2nd midwife at delivery because I delivered right on the shift changeover time!
Next baby (last one!) I will ask my sister if she's able to come or my mother-in-law as we are very close.

First pregnancy/labour; My mum and pregnant midwife. I was under the influence of pethidine!
Second pregnancy/labour: Fiance (Now hubby), midwife and trainee midwife. I nearly gave birth on my own cause hubby went home for something to eat. He was told that it would be a while before I was due to push! But things happened more quickly than was anticipated!

for the first it was my hubby and mum
for the second it was my hubby and my mum and my best friend and my son until it got to the point where he shouldn't be seeing what i was going through. both times directly outside the door was:
the mother and father in-law
the brother in-law
the sister in-law with her husband and daughters
my 2 brothers
and my dad.
all the in-laws kept opening the door and sticking their head in to see what was going on.
luckily i was so delirious with pain (drug free 18 hr labour) i didn't actually understand what they were doing or i would have lost it at them!!!!!!!

My partner was there, looking like something out of ER. The midwife, surgeon, doctor, aneathist, his helper so he had someone to talk about mobile phones with, and loads of nurses. Was not the special exciting thing I had imagined because I was having a c-section. And then our little baby came out all tightly curled up like a little egg shaped buddha.
