Yeah, it's legal up to and including cavity searches. Prisons are like another world, and you should not be surprised at what you go through to get in just for a visit. I am in law enforcement, and have been to prisons more than a few times on business. Every institution I have been in has plainly posted the warnings as to what to expect, and have made guests sign a waiver authorizing a "thorough" search, or denying entry if you refuse. Did you not have to do this, or did you not read / understand it? You would be amazed at what and how things get smuggled into a prison, REQUIRING these rules. Trust me, it's not the guards favorite part of the job.
Despite what the post above me says, cavity searches are not a Constitutional issue, nor are they excluded. It's a silly statement, the issue is never even addressed in the Constitution. The Fourth Amendment addresses unreasonable search and seizure, this issue is NEVER mentioned. This statement is naive at best, ignorant for sure.

Private parts must not be inspected or touched because it is a violation of privacy as protected in the Constitution. The visitors must only be monitored diligently to prevent the introduction of weapons and drugs to prisons.

I don't think it is - nor should it be required. If you visit someone in prison...you are under constant watch anyway.
