I have been having braxton hicks for the last week off an on (I am now 37 weeks)....today they got stronger and a little closer (few hours apart....not consitant)....now it's 4 am and all night in bed I have had harder contractions for a couple hours.....minimal break in between. I also have had back cramps (uncomfortable) all day and during the contractions.

I went to the bathroom and peed.....then sat there for a minute and some clear fluid trickled out....I wiped and it was completely clear......my pee is usually noticabley yellow.
I have no clue whether this is amniotic fluid, if my water broke or what??
What do you think? I'm not sure what to do. It trickled out a couple more times when i was in the washroom and i did pee a little in between the clear stuff (I hope this make sense!)

Contractions have stopped, but I still have a slight back cramp.

Also, this may be silly but....does the fluid come out of you where the pee does ?

It's possible you had a slight trickle of amniotic fluid, but it may not have been. (Even in the hospital they have trouble telling, although they'll use a stick of specially treated paper to try to figure it out, even that isn't a guarantee)

The amniotic fluid should come from your vagina, not your urethra, where pee comes from.

At 37 weeks, the baby is probably fully developed and ready to be born, but might not be. (the lungs develop last). ... A small tear in your amniotic sac (which is what it sounds like you have, if that was amniotic fluid you saw) can repair itself rather easily if contractions don't start right away.

I'd recommend that you go back to bed (the packed bags are there if you need them!) and see what happens. Contractions will usually start fairly regularly within a couple of hours after your water breaks. So, get some rest if you can and see if contractions come on. If not, take good care of yourself as if labor could start at any time:

eat a good quality carb and protein meal (fruit and peanut butter, whole grain bread and peanut butter, meat and whole grains... whatever you have that will give you protein and long-lasting energy.)

rest -- if it is labor, it will likely take 12-17 hours (on average, if you're a first time mom). So you need to take care of yourself! Once labor begins in earnest, you won't have much chance to rest.

No matter what, relax! That's what you need to be doing if it IS labor, so get started now!

Congrats on your pregnancy! One way or the other you're almost done. Good luck!

Your hindwaters could have broken as this is usually a trickle rather than a gush. All the pains and things sound positive for impending labour but if they are irregular and not too painful they could be strong braxton hicks. I got what seemed like full-on labour nearly every night for weeks leading up to the birth but once I was actually in labour I just 'knew' instinctively that this was different.

If more fluid leaks out, pains get regular and worse call the hospital and tell them what is going on. Write down on a piece of paper what happened at what time so everything can be looked at logically by a doctor if you go into the hospital to get checked out.
If it was your water breaking you should be induced within 24hrs if labour doesn't progress naturally or the risk of infection is high and you don't want that. Definately let the doctor know what is happening. (and wake hubby up too!)

~ best of luck ~

It does not sound like your water broke. Your water will not come out where you pee... and if you have a pin hole leak it will be slow but more frequent. If it is actually water breaking it would be alot more water. You may be in prelabor, but I would go off your contractions. If you are really worried I would call your Dr. That is what he is paid for.

Hopefully by now you called the doctor. However time your contractions if they are 5 or less minutes apart it is time to go to the hospital.
