I just started it, and I'm a little scared because I keep hearing that it makes you gain weight..
Is it a chemical in the drug that makes you retain water or put on pounds.. or is it because it makes you hungry..
I've heard it makes you hungry, but i've been pretty normal so far.. but it's only been a few days..
:)
if anyone knows please tell me?
thanks..

I would get OFF the shot!

Not only does it make you gain weight there are other horrible side affects.

PLEASE google "depo provera lawsuit" and check out its reviews on http://www.rateitall.com/t-330-birth-control-methods.aspx .

I'm appalled its still being administered as TOO many women have TOO many serious side affects of the shot!

With weight gain, I gained a LOT of weight. I worked out, I ate somewhat healthy, so I should have maintained a steady weight, but I gained a lot of weight and now that I am OFF of that poison, my weight is coming off slowly.

I had loss of libido, I was a terror for the two weeks up till my next shot date, I had serious headaches and spotted at odd times of the month. At first I thought it was me, then I read that it also could cause serious bone health issues! You need a bone density check after five years on the shot (My doctor told me this).

After researching the shot on the internet I was relieved it wasn't "just me" but horrified that this drug is in my system.

I immediately called up my doctor and had a consultation for a birth control pill called Kariva. I've been on Kariva for 1 1/2 years and I've had NO horrible side affects like I did on the shot. NO weight gain, NO loss of libido, NO being a terror before my period.

I'm also petrified I won't be able to conceive. I know a few women who have had to go to a fertiility specialist to help them out with becoming pregnant.

Please, research the shot before you get it again.

like with anything that contains hormones eg pill, mini pill, implant, iud etc for the first few months your body is getting used to it and some people retain water which makes them put on a little weight but this doesnt happen to everyone.

my friend actually lost wieght on depo and it was only when she came off it that she realised how thin she was and started to try to put weight on.

it effects everyone differently.

i advise you to read up on depo though because it can have some very serious side effects.
