Fernando Alonso could be the key witness in the FIA's spy case against McLaren after reportedly revealing the team used Ferrari's set-up back in March.
'The precise details of the emails are unclear, but it appears that they relate to Ferrari's car set-up. That would mean McLaren could have gained a performance advantage in their own car - flying in the face of their previous denials,' it reports.
The latest twist in this saga could spell disaster for Alonso's McLaren career, who is already on the rocks following comments about being unhappy from the Spaniard and an on-going fued with his team-mate Hamilton.
However, the Mail claims the Spaniard is 'expected to claim that he had no choice but to comply with the FIA's invitation to respond, though why they thought to question him in the first place remains a moot point.
So if true what will happen to mclaren and alonso?

Good point, I was just thinking that.
If McLaren is found guilty and FIA decides to punish the team by excluding them from the championship (driver's and constructor's), then that's mission accomplished for Fernando...Maybe he thinks that Lewis is too strong to beat and, he figures, if he can't win the championship, he's going to do all he can do to stop Lewis (and team) from winning it.
I dont think Fernando cares any more what the team thinks of him, and blowing the whistle was probably the best and only form of revenge he could have come up with....
I'm probably wide off the mark though.....but juicy gossip and speculation of evil deeds are always a great read....

If I understand correctly, Alonso only this week in response to the letter (and de la Rosa as well) responded to the FIA indicating they had this particular exchange of email back in the spring.
I don't doubt that it has crossed his mind that telling on McLaren now is not going to hurt him one way or another because the dream of going there, being top dog, and winning another (several perhaps) championship(s) has shattered when it became clear Hamilton is capable and maybe even favoured by the team (not so much intentionally or by policy, but because they have known him longer).
This is a mess, and if I were Fernando Alonso I would certainly share everything quickly. Why? Well, reports show that Alonso and de la Rosa have responded to the letter from the FIA; but not Hamilton. It leaves open the chance to speculate that Hamilton knew more? Maybe?
It is certainly all about PR at this very moment. The truth will out of course, it always does.
At this point I think it is headed very quickly to McLaren being excluded from the 2007 Championship. Whether it means just from the Constructors Championship, or the drivers will also be excluded remains to be seen. It would be a shame to exclude the drivers because it basically hands the title to a Ferrari driver, and the Ferrari team and then we face 10 teams moaning and groaning that it was all manufactured to give the title back to Maranello.
As for Alonso's career... I would say the EXIT door is certainly on the horizon for him at McLaren. Shame it came to this. It had such promise.
The other shame would be if Ron Dennis knew all along. He's been a man of strong integrity over the years, he's 60, he's aiming for retirement and it could all end in disgrace. That would be sad.
Of course, should McLaren be excluded, they will not be the first team to be so treated. Tyrrell was excluded from the 1984 season, after the fact, for illegal ballasts in the car.

It is possible; nobody really knows. But when something like this happens, people start pointing fingers. It wouldn't be very convincing if Hamilton was blamed because he is a rookie, so what motives would he have? Why would he jeopardize his chance of winning the world championship title when he is already doing so well?
But when it comes to Alonso, there are many possible motives. Like, he may be jealous of all the fame and immediate success of rookie Lewis and that he is not happy in his new team and wants to return to Renault. Therefore, he becomes an easy target.
McLaren could be kicked out of the world championship and Alonso might retire, Spanish press Marca reported. No reasons have been specified though. Alonso might also be going back to Renault. I think Alonso is being made the victim of these whole thing as well as the villain. I really sympathize with him.

This is just so strange. I still am struggling to get my head around all the stuff that's going on with this 'spy saga'. Are Alonso's days numbered at Mclaren? Are they numbered as a driver? Does he just want to go back to Renault? Is he doing something to 'prove' he's good enough to drive for Ferrari?

The widespread penalty for the Vettel situation could be to enable the motive force (Vettel) repass. IF the pass replaced into with regard to the chicane decrease. that's arguable no count if this replaced into or replaced into no longer the case right here. an in depth call the two way. If the stewards felt a re-pass could happen they should have reported something. purely because of the fact they dithered for a pair of laps isn't a honest foundation for hitting the guy for what's initially a 20 2d penalty, on authentic of which he than has to re-pass 0.5 a dozen drivers. This made it greater like a 40 2d penalty. Laughable that a gaggle of area timers with unknown loyalties can destroy a race like that; yet greater data of the decide for for professional stewards that trip with the F1 circus.

It's almost insane. I'd say yes and no. FIrst I'll explain why i say no. Because it means implicating himself. If he had reported Mclaren it means he is also bringing himself trouble. after all, if they did cheat then he has indirectly benefitted from it.
yes, Because of his conscience. He knows it's wrong to cheat but he did not do the cheating. But he belongs to a team that cheats (supposedly). So he feels guilty as the championship could be won by dishonest means. so he comes clean. Or it could be he cooperates to be given a lighter sentence as he helped in the investigation.
If guilty McLAren wouldbe chucked out of the 2007 and 2008 championships. OUCH

It doesnt make sense to sabbotage your own team. Back in March Alonso's relationship with McLaren was okay. It was only around May/June that things started getting bad. Just think about it logically for a moment, what would he have to gain by "telling" on mclaren?
He would lose his drive, his title challenge and his integrity.

Lewis, Pedro and Fernando all had letters. why single out Alonso? i think its ludicrous that he is getting the blame left right and centre. if he was involved then so was Pedro and Lewis, i don't see them getting a slating for it. it's Crucifixion by media. i don't believe it myself, after all you don't s*** on your own doorstep. why on earth would he want to sabotage his chances of another possbile world championship. roll on 13th when it all comes to an end either way.

there are a lot of strange things happening at one of the best teams in F1 and i dont believe it stops at nigel, Alonzo seems to have a lot of h8 for McClaren at the min and seems intent on wreacking them.....what better way to get into a drive at ferrari then to help them!?!
