If he replaced the thermostat with an infra red type which requires the receiver to be hard wired, it is possible to cost a few quid, some of them are £140 to buy, even then it sounds very expensive. People here sometimes jump the gun a bit, say they can buy things for x amount but forget that in business, the price has to be marked up a bit for profit and for vat. Even then, it sounds excessive, ask for a breakdown, if it isn't right call and have a chat with trading standards.

if all he seemed to do was add a bit of wire then can we assume that you all ready had the room stat fitted and it was all ready wired back to the boiler ..if so why would he need to fit this piece of wire?..surely he gave you an estimate for the work before he did it and surely he gave you an invoice with detail es of what he had done ..

The thermostat would have cost well under £100, so did his time justify the rest of the cost?

I fitted a room thermostat yesterday, to an existing system and charged £48.00 +VAT. Tell him to justify the cost, maybe he 's charged extra for a bag of oats for his horse, cowboy!

£310.00 ???? No that is to much a digital room stat cost about £90 plus labour of about £40. Perhaps he installed a central heating pump aswell (another £60 plus).

That sounds outrageous. That was something you could have done yourself and saved a lot of money.
