Yes. Also, the exponential levels system is very demotivating - it's going to take me months to get from 6 to 7, and you do tend to loose interest!
Having said that, having ten points deducted for no valid reason still irritates me so much that it can ruin my day. Interesting, isn't it? I've lost nothing tangible, nothing that effects my life in anyway at all, nothing that I care about, yet it promotes a real anger response in me!

Almost guilty. I don't do just yes or no. I am not a yes/no person I always have to qualify my answer. When I was collecting points to get to the point so I could thumbs-down the rude/nasty people who were just being vicious, I did look for easy questions with simple answers. Or questions on the lighter side knowing by answer needn't be important. But I never yes/no.
If you ask the wrong question, I never shut up. '-)
I think I fully earned these two points.

You asked a closed question (Does anyone else think...) which means the answer you want is yes or no.
If you asked "How do I prune my tree?" or "Which digital camera is best?" then you'd get 25 different opinions.
But this is Yahoo!Answers, not Yahoo!Opinions ;-)
Additional to glasgow gerry:
You're obviously not very bright. My point was, if people ask questions that have a Yes or No answer then that's what they'll get. I hope you enjoyed your 2 points for your inane vapid babble. Unlike you, I actually tried to answer the question, not just get 2 points for spouting sh!te, pal.

Yes, No, Maybe . . . yay 2 points! :-)
Actually the fun for me to trying for the 10. Though sometimes it's purely just for the chance to speak my mind.
I only really cared about getting enough points to get to level two so I could use the thumbs up and thumbs down, and now I'm hooked. So it's not that bad of a system.

I'm not sure what the points are for. I mean, are they convertible into hard cash? Can we trade points between ourselves for luxury goods and so on?
And, no, I do not think Y/A promotes yes/no answers. Many of the answers and indeed the questions are excellent. This just is not one of them!

Are people really that keen to get points? And if so why? The points are of no use to anyone... you don't get prizes or anything. I guess there are shallow people who collect the points just because they can but it seems daft to me. I would only answer a question if I thought i had something relevant to say.

If somebody solutions your question with, 'thank you for the two factors', it is a NON-answer ... and you're able to record it (pointgaming). Any answer which makes no attempt to respond to the question that replaced into asked could be reported. The 5-component deduction is the fee we pay to ask a question. it is no longer a penalty. it is purely that in case you pick for something (techniques/suggestion), you pay for it (-5 factors). once you supply something (answer others' questions), you're rewarded (+2 factors). you in addition to mght earn 3 factors returned on any question which you ask while (if) you pick for terrific answer your self. So, asking a question truly purely fees 2 factors ... which you will actually make up via answering purely one question asked via somebody else. the fee of asking a question (-2 factors) is strictly equivalent to the advantages for answering a question (+2 factors). The 'component' to the factors equipment is to inspire (charm to?) us to proceed partaking. in case you subject much less with regard to the factors themselves and greater approximately assisting others via giving stable solutions, you will quickly have greater factors than you should ever wish to 'spend' asking questions.

some answers require a yes/no answer, but i know what you mean, the thing you need to remember is this is a public forum and aside from getting people who agree/disagree with your point of veiw, you will also come across some muppets, so try not to let what gets said on here bother you.
