like video and audio formats?

the fact that I would find it very useful if everything is in one format does not mean we need to live under a dictator... what nonsense... I just want ease... I do agree that better stuff comes out... but I mean.. there are TOO MANY different ones...

The different formats change because the new ones are better then the old ones. Even now, with blue-ray versus HDdvd, we don't standardize because it would violate the right for a free market, where any company can introduce any product that want because it is their right to do so in America.
If you had an alternative technology that is comparable or better what is out there now, you would be dumb not to want to market that, so you can earn money. We don't live in a fascist dictatorship world where everything is standardized.

It's called business. Each company wants to standardize their OWN formats among users thus beating out competition.
