I believe those of us who are lucky enough to have at least ONE person in our lives that shape us into the people we are today, there is no greater gift than such a privilege.

Tell me about such a person in your life, and what aspects/characteristics you hold so dear of that person that you strive(d) to be just like them.

I believe leaders should practice what they preach and lead through example, so I'll go first:

There's a man in my life named Richard Park; I wanted to be just like him as a kid, acting how he was, whether that was silly or serious. I not only observed and mimicked the way he dressed, acted, and carried himself, but his work-ethic on and off the basketball court - he inspired me in such ways that he was the reason why I picked up the game of basketball.

Let's hear about yours - I'm sure not just I, but everyone would like to hear your biggest influences, and your success stories that soon followed :)

My Mother's Mother. She was beautiful and kind to everyone.
She brought poor people and sick people food and allowed a couple families to stay in her home until they could move on.
I never saw her say an angry word. She smiled all the time.
I learned to be accepting, tolerant, forgiving and kind. Thank you for the question. C. :)!!

I'd have to say "Jesus."
He was a man and was human.
He was able to ask for forgiveness for those who persecuted him.
He resisted the temptations put before him.
He was humble and loved all men alike.
It doesn't matter whether you or anyone believe in God or Jesus; he represents what's so much more than good.
How can you go wrong by not following his basic teachings and the majority of the ten commandments.
Success is not measured by what titles you hold, how much money you make, how famous you are, how much you are loved by others; it's how you live your life everyday and all the small things you do that can make a difference in any ones life.

The biggest influential figure in my life is a guy who I have known barely a year, but in that time he has had a greater impact on me than anyone i've ever met.
We are very similar in alot of ways, but he has taught me so much without even realising he does so.
He's taught me that you're only as big as the things that annoy you, that you should do what your heart says not always your head and that you can't let what other people think get you down.
He's helped me to discover who I am and what I want from life, and I absoloutly adore him for it.
All that I still wonder is whether or not I mean as much to him as he means to me. Hopefully one day I'll know.
=)

There are lots of people who influence me. It can be people who I read about in magazines, like in a recent article in Glamour magazine, Eve Ensler (writer of Vag1na Monologues) wrote about how many women get gang raped in Congo, Africa. The things that happen to them are extremely brutal and inhumane, but some of these women still fought to stay strong. It makes me feel so lucky to have what I have, and the problems I have seem very minor compared to people who go through these tremendous hardships.

My Grandfather. He came here from Ireland with one dollar.
He couldn't get a job, because they wouldn't hire the Irish.
So he sold rags, vegetables and junk on the streets of the city for years. he branched out into pots and pans, and ladies what knots. When the depression hit he had built up a cash
horde, and started bying up land for really cheap. When he died he owned most of the county we lived in and several businesses. It showed me, with determination and guts, you can overcome anything.

Actually my biggest influence is my son.
I used to work a dead end job and used to be really lazy.
Then I came to realize I didn't want my son to be like me, well not like that.
I now go to school again to better myself, got a better job and I cook and clean at home. I want him to be a well rounded person, like me now.
He made me change my life. He is my greatest influence.

David Towle. He is my psychologist. I'm taking psychology because of him. If it wasn't for him, I might not be. I might not even be in school.
