I cannot go to sleep and when I try to I feel strong heartbeats. It freaks me out that I can't sleap and I have been having random aches and am generally not myself. What is going on? I have also been feeling weak.

Agree with one of the above answers... u need a sleeping pill and maybe a pain killer. I had once gone through that but got okay right after the doctor gave me sleeping pills and some pain killers. Your body needs rest and sometimes it's okay to take the medicine.

I have too. It could be because of stress or preoccupation in my case.

Edit: Like right now it's 5:00 AM EDT and I've been up all night. I'm trying to mentally exhaust myself so I can sleep. I sleep better in the daytime. If I have to sleep at night I sleep better with a light on and my sleeping cap pulled down over my eyes. I prefer no noise but an air conditioner or refrigerator sound doesn't bother me. It has to be a sound I hear all the time that I'm accustomed to. I can't sleep with radio or TV on. I'll lie there and listen to it and never get to sleep.

Unfortunately, you sound like you can have a variety of heart-related or stress-related problems. Since I do not know you medical history, I shall simply list them for you:

The inability to sleep is often caused by insomnia, which is often caused by stress. Stress can also cause anxiety or high blood pressure, especially in people already prone to both. Anxiety and high blood pressure can lead to loud, irregular heartbeats.

Also, indulging in too much caffeine can cause you to stay awake, which causes additional stress/anxiety, which would eventually cause insomnia if it is a constant in your life. Energy drinks and caffeine also cause irregular heartbeats if your body is not used to digesting so much of the energy.

A more severe problem that fits your symptoms is heart disease. Anybody who is the following is highly susceptible to heart disease. If you are at least one of the below, I suggest going to a doctor to get examined:

1. Smoker
2. Overweight
3. Stressful or suffering from Anxiety
4. High Blood Pressure

If your family has a history of heart disease or any of the above, you are susceptible, and if you're prone to high cholesterol you are prime for heart diease.

Feeling weak is often an indicator of severe failing health. I don't mean to scare you, but you could be in serious risk. Instead of consulting Yahoo!Answers, you might want to consider a professional medical opinion.

Probably bad nutrition. Try adding more iron in your diet like spinach. Or take iron pills and/or multi-vitamins.

It could be anything. But considering that it is your heart we are talking about, you shouldn't be asking us you should be checking with your doctor.
