just curious, but i've heard that zebra is also from the horse family. if thats true, then why don't people ride on zebras like they ride on horses? in certain parts of the world, people ride donkeys and mules too but how come no one would ride a zebra even though zebra has very similar body structure to horses?

Zebras are generally considered untameable. Their personalities just aren't suited to being ridden. You can get a zebra/horse cross called a zorse and they are more suitable as pets and probably some are "horselike" enough to be ridden. They aren't very common though.

Yes, Zebras have a wilder spirit and are much harder to tame. I will not elaborate further, as everyone has already covered it! :)

PS: There are some rare instances where Zebras are tamed and ridden. Go to this link on Winkipedia and scroll down almost to the bottom under the category: Domestication. There's some pictures there of some tamed Zebras being ridden! There's also some more information as to why Zebras can't be tamed very easily...

Can You Ride A Zebra

Zebras are very difficult to tame and stay very wild throughout their lives. Most people do not have the time to devote to intensely socializing an animal like a zebra to ride it. The same reson people don't use wolves as house pets, even though their similar to dogs. Horses have been domesticated, which partially means that people have bred qualities into the species that make them easier to handle. If you had a captive zebra and it was raised in captivity since birth you probably could ride it like a horse with a little effort.

Some animals take to domestication. Zebras don't ☺

Because zebras won't domesticate. Try breaking one to the saddle sometime. I'll film it, and we'll send it in, win first place on 'americas stupidest people', and split the take. Deal?

The earlier (undomesticated) horses were not strong enough to carry adult humans on their backs, but over the centuries they were domesticated and bred to produce stronger and stronger individuals. The big farm horses now are descendants of horses bred to carry armored humans (knights). Zebras have never gone through that process, and are probably not built to carry people, even if they were tamed.
