In a basic sense, it's missing someone so much, you never want to leave for long.

What is love? Tricky question. Are you asking what is love in the romantic way or just love in a general? If you are asking the second question, it's what you feel for your relatives or friends. You probably love someone and you must already know how it feels. Now, if you are asking about romantic love, well, what can I say? One of the answerer said that love is some kind of temporary insanity. But this is what we call "to be in love with someone". This is a part of to love someone. A temporary part many times. Sometimes I can't even sleep because I miss someone so much and this makes me feel like a teenager, although I am almost 50. But love turns into a "relative's love" after some time and yes, Doug is right. When you really love someone, you think in this person's well-being prior than in yours. Or in this person's happiness prior than yours. This was a nice quote. This guy thinks like me in this matter, and this is perhaps one of the reasons I love him so much.

I have been reading some of the definitions that the previous answerer posted. Sexual desire is not love. When you love someone in a romantic way, then you feel the need of expressing your love in a physical way too. But sexual desire doesn't mean love in itself.

What is love?

Love is simple.
Love is...
Listening
Listen to people.

Dont wait for your
turn to talk
Just listen.

Look them in the eyes.
Care about what they'ar saying and...
and just listen.

Love is simple.
Love is...
Acknowledging
Acknowledging people
for who they are.
Not for what you wont
them to be.

Just Acknowledging them
Think about all the
people who support you.
Your MUM.
Your DAD.
Your SPOUSE.
Your PARTNER.
Your FRIENDS.

Just Acknowledging them.
Tell them what a difference
they make for YOU.

Pretend that they
dont know the
obvious.
And state the obvious
like it's never been heard before.

It's not the famous people in the world
that make your world
It's your friends
It's your family.
It's your children.

Because...
Love is simple.
Love is...
seeing the ordinary.

Love is...
Something that should be felt everyday.
Love doesn't need to be extraordinary, it can be ordinary.

Part of your life --like a cup of coffee, a daily newspaper,
or a morning run.

Love is patient, kind and understanding. Love is forgiving and knows what is best. If you think that you are in love then you are not. You will know if you are in love. There will be no question to that. If you would die for another person or suffer incredible hardship for them then you have love. If you would sacrifice everything you know for another person then you have love.

to remain independent, to trust that you can let go, and to allow each person to live as an individual - and be able to grow spiritually, emotionally, economically etc.... all the while.

And I firmly believe this form of "perfect love" can only be experienced by those who have come to truly love themselves.
