If he flaunts his wealth, it's easy to tell. See what kind of car he's got, what kind of place is he staying in. What kind of clothes does he wear? Branded stuff? Expensive watch? Bottles of wine in the house? Does he tip wherever he goes? What kind of spots does he hang out at?
But then again, some people are really good at saving money and they're actually quite thrifty with their daily expenses so you can't tell at all.
You can try looking at how much he spends on his hobby. If he can afford to spend a lot on it, he must be fairly well off.

there is a lot of ways to do that
but there always certain ways to see trough
usually small details that you wouldn't know like
-the way they would walk, usually they'd walk with light yet firm
steps
-the kind of car they're driving, doesn't have to be nice but well maintained, spotless body, and nice paint that looked like they just painted it a few minutes ago
-their accessory, usually a very simple yet very nice watches
sometimes they'd have a simple yet gold/silver inlaid rings
-they way they would talk, wealthy people belive it or not
hate to waste time when they talk, as much as they would say
'please... take your time....' they won't really listen to what you have to say or they wouldn't wait for you alltogether if you took a long time doing something
there are a bit more, but u'd think i'm a thief

new money a guy will flaunt
but old money could be reserved
