Rich. That is a very loose term. Your lack of elaboration or specification of rich only implies that you know no other. I can only assume that you are refering to worldly wealth. In that sense, you should truly examine your motives for wondering. If money means everything to you then you are like the man who built his house on the sand. But the odds are that you will not be concerned with what I have to say because you are infatuated with greed. This is an unhealthy obsession and it should be reviewed. Money can't buy you love or happiness. I'd would tell you that you can know if a person is by there spending behavior but it depends upon the individual. Perhaps they invested alot of money into a few things that they use to impress others with. If they are frugal with their money then they are either misers or broke. If they don't have a problem taking off to Italy at a moments notice then they are wealthy. If they drive a 2008 and have a very nice home then they are rich. But how far does information like this get a person? Ask those who have wasted the best parts of their lives living a lie just so they can be with someone who is rich.

You can rarely tell just by appearance.

Talking to him at least once may reveal a whole lot about his financial status. But then again, rich is relevant to each person.

That's because someone who is 'rich' to you maybe ordinary or average to me. So if you are 'rich' you will probably recognize a rich man faster than someone who has never attained that status in their lives, or have rarely sustained it.

For me, a newly 'rich' man, aka novo riche, will probably flaunt his assets, for all to see. You will find him driving the latest model car, wearing accessories, his clothes immaculately clean, and reeking of perfume a mile away.

The old-money rich may be your next door neighbour who is nice, helpful, and warm, probably driving a nice car, but not necessarily the latest model, probably generous with tips, and would always pamper his girl with at least dinner and a movie. Flowers, giving and receiving, may also be on his agenda.

Morever, the old money rich are usually permanenet members of a few clubs not just locally, but also throughout the world, unlike the newly rich ones who change clubs or join intermittently.

You can tell if a man is rich by the "things" he values. How he uses them, how he makes them grow. How he tends them and how he shares it and participates with it in his life.

A man who knows what is valuable, what is important, what is fleeting and what is ever lasting is the one who knows what the true value of his riches are.

to tell if a man is rich, check if he can afford to obtain by non-evil means (heheh, pardon me for lack of usable terms) anything of his luxury AFTER getting everything of his necessity.

one who is not complete of his necessities should not be considered rich right away..

I know many generous rich and many greedy poor.. no the rich are not all wicked (contrary to the media hype) nor are the poor all saints. Abraham told the rich man that everyone has the words to live by they have a choice to follow them or not that even the dead could return to life and they wouldn't believe. Moses and the prophets and rich man's brothers were all men they had free will and had to choose the path that God set forth in the law or to choose to ignore it. The prophets were sent to ALL the Israelites to learn what God wanted from them. If you read the Old Testament you will learn the Israelites grumbled a lot, turned away from God a lot and disobeyed His laws a lot. Much like today.
