Why do persons who make hateful or offensive jokes demand that the persons whom they are insulting should not be so sensitive and get a sense of humour? instead of admitting that they themselves are wrong for having a sadistic sense of humour?

If you don't get offended by what otherwise would be viewed as an offensive joke, then I don't get offended by your lack of offendedness. It is when you get offended by my offendedness that I get offended. My offendedness or lack of offendedness is my personal response, and you don't ethically have a say that I shouldn't be offended.

Michelle: I don't give thumbs down to people for disagreeing with me. Instead, I respond to people in my details if I have something to say about their answer.

The people that do this are just asses. A friend of a friend that I know likes to crack Polish and German jokes, ones based around Stupidity and Nazis. This particular person tells the jokes at our gatherings even though I inform him that I am both polish and German and hate the jokes.
I am told to lighten up, its just a joke. Personally, I don't see the need to degarade an entire nationality for a cheap laugh. It's pathetic if you have to entertain yourself by making fun of others, but some people are so shallow that either they enjoy it or are too dumb to understand that it is truly offensive and not as light hearted as they think. I told this friend once that his jokes were crude and to stop as that I was getting aggravated. He thought it was amusing that I took offense to it and continued. To illustrate my point, I mentioned since he was black, his racist Polish and German jokes would be like me telling N***** jokes. He finally saw my point of view and cut back on the jokes. I think this case turned out that he was so stupid that he didn't understand he was actually offending people.
To summarize, these people telling jokes like this are either dumb or just enjoy offending others.
-Update. So, Doc Manhattan, judging by your avatar I would say you are of African decent. So If I were to let off a string of anti-black jokes, you know the kind; you mean to say you wouldn't take the time to get upset. I highly doubt that.
-Kazuma, your reply is a bit naive. Anyone who hasn't lived under a rock their whole life has had to have heard "treat others as you wish to be treated". To say that this is the only way they know how to act is a crock of bull. They know how to act better, they just choose not to.
-Michelle, I like your answer. You give the person the CHOICE to hear the joke. This is a luxury that not everyone gives. My remarks were about the variety of people that do not give the choice and continue the racist jokes after being told to stop.
By the way, we are humans, humans have emotions. It is in our nature to respond whether it be to a physical or non-physical stimulus. Even a joke is capable of causing an emotional response, some people may shrug it off while others may get upset. It's just how we deal with things.

There used to be a time when people paid money for the chance to be insulted by Don Rickles. Americans have lost their sense of humor with all this P.C. garbage. Jokes are never meant to be taken personally. Many comedians have also became quite rude and aren't really all that funny so they resort to the old standby, insult someone when all else fails. Right or wrong in some situations both the joker and recipient are partially the blame. If your seriously homely dont go to a comedy club and sit where you can be spotted and made fun of. Some people need to be made fun of as it may inspire them to do something about their weight. I know fat people that tell fat jokes and they aren't offended at all. At the workplace nobody should be ridiculed or hazed by some jokester. I would like to see some sadistic simpleton come into a mensa meeting and get caught up into a battle of wits. Maybe ask them what are the 10 binary codes most commonly used.

I see that the people who agreed with you got a thumbs up and the ones who disagreed got a thumbs down. Wonder what I will get?
I like to tell jokes. I am a blonde (natural) and I love blonde jokes. I will always ask first if you would like to hear a polish or black or whatever joke. If you don't want to hear it, I won't tell you. But if you want to hear it, don't get offended!
I usually don't tell the really nasty racial jokes and I never use the N word. Nasty sex jokes are my personal favorite.
Yes, I agree. People should be more careful what they say around other people.

Not all persons who make hateful or offensive jokes would not accept that they were wrong, some are humble enough to ask for apology to the offended parties. Only the proud ones qualify under your question.

Because some people realize that one day, we are going to die; and it is a terribly petty thing to get angry about when there are so much more serious things to get all worked up over.
It's when people like that can dish it and not take it that I have a problem... otherwise, whatever. Get a thicker skin.

Usually the person does not know how to talk any other way, just either ignore them or be sensitive about it.

1)being an asshole is not inherrently "wrong." it's just a good way to get people to not like you.
2)humor is completely subjective
3)who the hell has the time to waste being offended by the insensitive jerks of the world?

Because it's not that serious. They should lighten up and quit taking every politically incorrect remark to heart.
When did this world become a bunch of "Nancy pants cry babies" anyway?
