Z06 has like 500hp? And it doesn't cost anwhere close to other car at the same range of hp.
How does corvette do it? Where did they cut the cost?

They don't charge extra for the name like most European companies do. They don't use nearly as many exotic materials to make the car. Saves weight but adds lots of money.
I also saw an interesting article (car and driver maybe?) about how to bash an American car. It compared the new 6.2 L LS3, 7 L LS7, and the 6.2 L AMG. Naturally they bashed the American cars for only making 436 hp and 505 hp while the smaller AMG engine made 518. The AMG also made almost as much torque as the LS7. All 3 engines weigh about the same. The AMG was several inches wider but otherwise similar in size. Then at the very end they sorta mentioned the prices $6900 for an LS3, $15000 for an LS7, and $50000 for the AMG. All that extra money went to lightweight materials and other tricks to get huge power out of a smaller engine.

No corners cut, no cost cutting. The vette ZO6 is a high dollar car built here in the USA. Retail on an optioned out ZO6 is like $75,000. The price is about right ad in line with other USA 'supercars'
Now if your looking at the euro market then you are paying for the name and having the car built on demand.
The ZO6 is a mass production car, and some of the euro performance cars are not. They are built when an order is placed (on some of the models)
Look over the specs on the ZO6.. It's top of the line stuff.. Ti rods, forged pistons, alloy alum box frame, etc.

Very true. Chevrolet has been racing this motor for about four years on road circuits. They have a triple in house supply of standard parts for these motors. Titanium rods, valves, dry sump oiling system, cylinder blocks and optional intake manifolds and aftermarket carburetors all through the Chevrolet parts catalog. The car itself is the usual smart planning and design by Chevrolet. The amazing part is they are able to get decent fuel economy compared to the Dodge Viper.

A corvette Z06 is an American car. Most other cars that come stock with 500+HP are made by forgen car companys. If you get a ferrari, lamborghini, etc., you are paying mostly for the name and europian styling.
