Animals talk all the time, they just don't talk in a language we can easily understand! After 50 years of canine and feline company I can tell the difference between I'm hungry, I'm happy and I'm angry in feline. I'm excited, someone's there, I'm angry and Stay away from MY territory in canine. The rest of the time I'm just guessing!
They have no problems communicating with their own species and I'm sure they learn to understand other animals including us far better than we EVER WILL!
Their vocal cords and mouth structures inhibits them from forming human words.
Some birds can do it > ever heard a parrot swear?
Imagine if they could though! You might be told things you didn't want to hear, like, "get these damn stupid clothes off me, RIGHT NOW!

Animals can talk, we just can't understand them. They seem to understand one another, and can understand us by the tones in our voices. I think they're communication is more based on tones in their voice to express feeling. This is not a very well understood topic, since it is difficult to study. I do know that my cats communicate with me and also chatter when they are excited, they also use a lot of body language. So much more intelligent than people can imagine.

Well, duh. They can, and do, communicate constantly.

You just have to be able to interpret the flick of an ear, the squint of eyes, etc.

That's why some animal "trainers" are better than others- they really 'get it' and the animal is valued for being an animal, not being expected to do people stuff.

The best example is a horse- the entire training process is based on the horse's instinct to avoid discomfort.

well animals can communicate but if you mean do they have language certainly not because first of all any possible words or letters or variations in there vocal cords are nearly impossible except for some animals like the parot.

on a side note tuna tastes good =)

I recall arguing with my professor on this in one of my college courses. Animals can communicate in lots of ways, they just don't have the complexity of language. It's mostly in definition and semantics.
