The major place of the Easter 1916 uprising was the General Post Office on Sackville Street (later O'Connell Street), flanked by Henry St. and Princess St. Patric Pearse read the Proclamation of Ithe Republic from here. There is a plaque to commemorate the event.

Cathal Brugha was wounded at South Dublin Union (now St. James' Hospital). He was wounded by a hand grenade and by multiple gunshot wounds. There is a plaque to him on O'Conell st. but I don't think there is one at St. James'.

Brugha died in 1922 still fighting for Irish independence
