You know, musiclogists have been trying for years to find a simple and direct way to define Romanticism -- and you have done it!!

"Lots of violins going up and down" -- now why didn't I think of that? Everyone knows that violins in the Baroque and Classical eras simply stayed on one note -- never went up, never went down, and there weren't very many of them.. And then along comes old Beethoven with a new idea -- how about we have LOTS of violins and make them go up and down? Voila!! Romantic Music.

That Beethoven was a genius.

If you want something for free, find a classical radio station that is playing anything by the composers listed below. Otherwise there are lots of CDs and downloads available to buy.

Mendelssohn: Violin concerto
Bruch: Violin concerto, or Scottish fantasia
Tchaikovsky: Romeo and Juliet, or Swan Lake
Saint-Saens: Introduction & rondo capriccioso
Elgar: Cello concerto, or Enigma variations
