that people can't just be nice - answer the question - only if they know the answer - and are truly interested in the question in the first place

Welcome to the most well balanced area of Yahoo. We can delight in being mischevious but never cruel. If the Q or A is racist, mean spirited or down right ugly you will know it is not a true senior. Never having heard of a troll until recently I learned quickly plus had a nice explanation. I was also taught to prevent harrassment to hide my Q & A's in my profile. I like to check others profiles befoer I add them to my contacts but I understand now why many of us hide ours. Everyone here is very forgiving. When we seriously need advice on an issue affecting our lives we get sincere feedback. But you won't be molly coddled. I love that about all my friends. They are forgiving of grammar and syntax. So welcome aboard and hitus with your best shot. There are thousands of years worth of wisdom amongst everyone here.

I could have written this question just last month!

I was getting heartily sick of all the abusive, sick and rude comments that I had to read through to get to an actual serious answer- then I found SENIORS!!

Obviously the label must put a lot of the numbties off because I don't think I have seen anything offensive in the last few weeks that I have been logging on.

There are a couple of characters that are borderline though!
No names no pack drill ! But at least they are witty and clever - not just crude and stupid!

I really hope that - like me - you have found your site of choice!

Welcome!

I know! That's what I thought it would be when I first used the site to ask a question. Then as I browsed around, I found out that it's WAY more than an information resource! The seniors section is one of the nicest I've found, but as you can see, even it's not immune.

Just look for questions that are worthy of an answer.

I like to answer questions that are reasonable and make good sense.

There are a lot of kids with a smart mouth that really have no reason to be on yahoo in the first place.

Skip those and go on to another category.

I just found the senior citizen category last nite and I really like this section and the mature questions and answers.

Thanks so much for the good question.

Yes. I'm glad I found Seniors, I'm one myself anyway. But I was actually just going to give the whole site a miss, because of the foul language, stupid questions and not really learning anything of value. I had actually asked them if I could remove my Avatar.

And the Seniors have ALL got a great sense of humour. I also look into the journalism section now, and news, sometimes arts and humanities.

Sometimes when its the end
of the day and we have time to
get on here....our brain has
turned to mush and we just
don't feel very "nice". We are
just a little nuts.
So all the aggressions we have been holding all day just
seem to come out onto this
crazy website.
But we still have a lotta fun
even if some (not me) are
nuts.

There are the trolls, who simply want to be mean. Ignore them. Others only want 2 points and give silly nonsense answers.

Here on seniors, you're probably going to get interesting discourse from most people who respond. We're nice, we're intelligent and I believe we genuinely like the rest of us.

Sometimes we respond just to empathize, because we understand what you're going through, even though we don't know how to help you. I hope you don't resent that.

Some people just aren't capable of kindness, sorry for that but unfortunately since they apparently don't have anybody to care about them they have to vent some how and for some reason this is the only place to do it for them.

Some people just aren't nice. They are bored, that's why they are here. Then there are many, like myself, who like to make a difference and answer honestly. You just have to ignore the rude ones.

I haven't been around here too long, I had the same feeling you do, Hang on for the ride, lot of anger on these sites
sometimes, and nasty language, mostly on R&S and politics.
One has to be careful it does not transfer to one's own mood!
