I have a 1995 Pontiac Trans Am. If my exhaust manifold is leaking, can I experience HP/power loss? If so any idea how much? And if there is a power loss can the loss get worse over time?

When I floor the car, it still flies and doesn't appear to be missing anything. But when I am accelerating at more of a normal pace, it seems like the car is weaker than it should be. Could this be from the leak, or am I just pysching myself out???

I do plan on replacing the manifold gaskets, or replacing the manifold with headers but it could be a while so I am wondering the effect it'll have on the car in the meantime.

The car has 180,000 miles. It runs great, has had preventive works. This is the only problem with the engine. The manifold has been leaking for at least 1500 miles

headers will give you much more hp maybe 5 to even 15hp. but yes a leak in the manifold can cause a drop because that cylinder(s) will lose an amount of the back pressure on the o2 sensor system to cause the drop in hp.

The manifold leak and low power out put could be caused by a plugged up exhaust or bad cat converter Midas Muffler can take an o2 sensor out and hook up a pressure gauge and in a minute or two give you the bad news you have been waiting for. Headers high flow cats and exhaust system ordered yet? And any plans for overhauling that high milage engine?

Yes its possible, Because it will cause the computer to not be able ot adjust the other functions properly. After the gaskets are replaced you should re-set the computer by removing the negative battery cable for 1 minute. if the problem persists you could have other issues that can be detected by a computer scan, By the way you didn't mention the mileage on the car.

If you have a leak in your exhaust , your 02 sensor will not read properly therefore not adjust your air /fuel ratio properly.
Also = poor gas mileage. Probably doesn't sound to cool either.
