I had a one night stand with a guy friend of mine a little while ago, and I recently went to the doctor and found out that he gave me herpes. What should I say to him, if anything? I've heard that some people may not even know that they have it, but I really don't know what to say.
And don't be mean please it's devastating enough finding out that I'll have to deal with this for the rest of my life.

It is true he may not even know that he carries this infection.
That is the problem with diseases like herpes.
Or he might have erroneously thought he was "cured" since many people get one outbreak - and never have another.
But sadly, they can "asymptomatically" shed the virus - that means - THEY THINK they are fine - but the virus is being shed from the genitals without any symptoms.
Recent literature proves this.
And condoms?
They won't cover his scrotal sack - a common place for mento carry herpes.
There is one potentially bright idea for you, Kylie.
You can take one generic (inexpensive yet effective) acyclovir daily.
This will almost 100% keep you from shedding the virus and infecting other partners.
This is one of the safest medications of all.
There is also Valtrex - which is great - but much more expensive (500mg a day).
Please tell your friend - so other girls (hopefully) aren't in the same position from his infection.

It really depends on how good of a friend he is and what his personality is like I know some guys that I know if I said anything like that to them the whole world would know I had it and they would deny that I even got it from them and then other guys would be more understanding.. this is really a hard situation you are in and i'm sorry! If he's a good guy tell him if not I would keep it to myself and let him find out another way just to save yourself some embarassment

Be sure to let him know, because as you say he may be unaware that he has it.

He may or may not know. Tell him, pronto. You are not completely innocent, a condom could probably stopped the infection.

It would be best to tell him, if he doesn't know he should get tested! Plus he needs to know so that if he has other sexual partners he can let them know to get tested as well.
