What I see from the Feds is a thing they call minimum wage. What reality tells me is that most hiring is done at $7 to $10 per hour, including all of the McDonalds, KFC's, Arby's, etc.
The market should determine the wage not the Government--they have, and it has been higher on the street for some time.

Why not set your standards higher than a minimum wage job? If you are 44, you really need to make more than that, both to pay your bills and to fund a retirement. And in many rural areas, where housing is cheap and costs are generally low, one can live on minimum wage. Our minimum wage affords more to people than average, or even above-average prevailing wages do in many other countries. Minimum wage in the US is the lap of luxury in comparison to average and above-average wages in places like Mexico, China, India, etc. Life on minimum wage is not intended to be luxurious by any means. It is purely subsistence.
Raising the minimum wage is not some magic way to fix problems. All that raising the minimum wage does is reduce the availability of jobs in the lower end of the spectrum or push certain jobs either overseas or to automation. France tried a scheme to limit the workweek to 35 hrs/week. Nobody in France could work more than that, in order to try to create more jobs for everyone. It was a complete disaster. In a society like that where everything is costly and heavily taxed, one cannot make ends meet on 35 hrs/week and many people resorted to finding cash under-the-table jobs to make more money. None of that income was taxed, further depriving France's coffers of tax revenue.
Society does not owe us any particular wage. We have so many opportunities to improve ourselves in this country. You can go to school (and the government will give you lots of loans, scholarships and grants to do so, like I am doing now!). You can move to a city or region with more opportunities. You can start your own business. You can switch careers and there are often career counselors employed by the state to help you choose a new field and guide your transition. You can invest your money properly and further extend your earnings.

Rofonzo pretty good.
If they increased minimum wage to match society living then they would have to raise welfare, and all the other help programs for poor people.
If they raised minimum wage then the "illegals" as they were called would be making more.
When my grandma was working she got $0.35 per hour that was 60 years ago. There was not a minimum wage.

As long as we have illegals that will work for peanuts, starting wages will remain low. Its the law of supply and demand. We have large supply of illegals, the demand is they will accept low wages.
