"In her day" people tended to talk less about what they did but many did indeed include oral sex in their activities. We know this for two reasons:
1) there is literary, artistic, and photographic evidence that such activity did in fact occur.
2) there would be no need for prohibitive laws if nobody had thought of doing it.
While the sodomy laws you refer to are still on the books in many states, it's unlikely at this point that any state will pursue prosecution of consenting adults. The case in Texas was sufficient to put an end.
You might be interested in reading some on the historical perspectives of the sexual revolution in America. Don't be fooled into thinking anyone has recently thought up anything new to do in the bedroom.

Oral has been around since sex started. Yes, in some states it's still against the law. But I don't think the butt patrol will be knocking on your door anytime soon.
Your Mom probably is just repeating what her mom told her.
As long as nobody is getting hurt, you not having sex with children or animals, and both parties agree, sexual experimenting and pleasure is fine. It's the best actually.
If we weren't supposed to do it , why do have all these great books, like the Karma Sutra, The act of sexual human beings?
Go get some books and educate yourself , don't listen to archaic old school attitudes that sex is just something you do missionary and in the dark every Friday night.

It has always been acceptable but not openly admitted to as it is today.
If your mother is religious, remind her that prostitution is the world's oldest profession and it is mentioned in the Bible more than once.
Another Bible verse states: The marriage bed cannot be defiled, meaning that any acts within the marriage bounds are considered to be acceptable to God.
The reason that it is still considered unlawful is for the same reason that prohibition was once the law. Those laws are made by zealous people in an attempt to do the right, however misguided, thing, usually with God's intent in mind.
(As though we know God's intent, ridiculous).
PS: Did you know that way back in London England, the prostitutes wore red lipstick to advertise that they would perform cunnilingus, (blow jobs)?
Your mother should read the Kama Sutra with an open mind and she might get an enlightenment, I suggest you let her read this response.

No, the Supreme Court officially overturned all state sodomy laws in 2003 (Lawrence vs Texas). Oral sex is not perverted, it is a natural sexual activity and it certainly was done back in her day. Have you ever heard of Kinsey??

My mother has said the same thing. She also likes to say that anything animals don't do is perverted. I think your mother and mine came from a time when such things weren't talked about openly so that's why they think it wasn't done.

oral sex has been in existence ever since ur mom was born... she didn't experience it cuz maybe her husband didn't know how to do it... about it being illegal... i really don't know... i haven't heard of anyone going to jail just by having oral sex... even in jail.. prisoners do them...

oral sex has been around since the dawn of time, its shown on chinese taspastries, and the walls of caves, its not a new thing. just because she didn't do it, doesn't mean it wasn't going on.
and why are you lumping it in as a "nasty back end" thing, are you eight or something. "eww, sex is icky." please grow up, or better yet, learn to think for yourself and not to agree to everything mommy tells you.

I don't think there was a specific time when it became "acceptable." There are some who like it and think it's great while there are those who will always think it's filthy. Everyone is into different things.
