that includes a lot of us, pal. welcome to the club!
maybe if you take the time and force yourself a good doc, he could do some tests and find out. that would be good to know wouldn't it. you maybe dying of something or you may just slowing down and not exercising enough. or you could have arterial blockage or heart blockage. i knew one guy who had a "silent" infraction that had distroyed a big chunk in his heart. he just felt tired all the time and had shortness of breath. it got worse.
you could be a dead man walking. a doc might help.

Sounds like you have damaged something. It could be trouble with the spine which would affect your legs as well as the back.
If the pain goes down the outside of the legs to the ankle it could be sciatica.
At 43 you should still be OK, ease off a bit but don't rest completely, it's important to keep muscle tone otherwise you go into a vicious circle of getting weaker which increases the problem.
Be careful how you lift things and bend your knees not the back.
It might be a good idea to change your mattress and don't sit in very soft chairs which give no support to the back.
I've had this problem for over 30 years ( when bags of cement weighed twice what they weigh now) and, with care, it can be overcome. You learn to handle things better and know what the danger signs are.
I'm still moving mountains.

If you're very physical, you might be quite heavy (muscle being heavier than fat) and so if you are that might be affecting your running. I used to run to combat the weight-gain side-effects of medicine I was taking, didn't combat it enough and consequently ended up stopping running when I reached about 16 stone. I'm swimming now as the lower impact is better for me, and I would throughly recommend it.

Go to the doctor and ask/undergo for an LSV x-ray. You might have a slipped disk or the like. If the results turn out fine, you might just need rest. =)
