I like it, I'd love to see these teenage punks have to do something good. It might build some character.... their parents have certainly failed in that endeavor.

I'm in favor of it, and I'm surprised more of these anti-immigrant types aren't.

There are many non-military jobs that simply need doing in this country, and 18 and 19 year olds do a great job farming, doing roadwork, fighting fires, picking up trash, planting trees, teaching literacy, whatever.

It's not at all uncommon for civilized nations to require a year or two of military service of their citizens. That wouldn't fly in the US right now due to certain foreign military adventures, but there ARE plenty of illegal immigrants here now, doing jobs that Americans could be doing, but won't.

I'd support a mandatory National Service Corps, as long as it wasn't purely military.

If planting crops and the like sounds good. could add for service supplying necessities provided with money from government to the nation wherever needed.

i am not sure what you are referring too....

the draft? or everyone having to, at some point, be in the military?

i have no objection to the draft....i have no objection if at some point all must serve their country...

i would have joined the service after 9/11, but they didn't want a beat up ol'woman like me...((past the age limit))...

Forced community service?
Talk about freedom.

Why don't parents just focus more on raising good, responsible kids rather than their corporate job or upgrading this and that?

If made mandatory, it smells of "involuntary servitude". That was made illegal back in the 1860s.
