Okay, I feel REALLY stupid for asking this, but I just can't figure it out. I need to perform a calculation on a number in order to get the desired result, but every time I try, I keep getting the opposite of what I want.

Here are some test examples:

Number = 5,000
Result = 200

Number = 10,000
Result = 100

Number = 20,000
Result = 50

Number = 40,000
Result = 25

etc.

Can anyone think of a formula to convert the number into the result?

Thanks!

in each pair, number x result = 1 million, so

result = 1 million ÷ number.

I"m going to pick out the easy ones.

Lets try the last one, it can be done in your head.

Think of it this way: 40,000 divided by 25
Lets take a short cut. Multiply the bottom one by 4 to get 100; then multiply the top one by 4 to get 160,000.

Then the problem changes to 160000 divided by 100.

To divide by 100 you just take off two zeros. That gives 1600.

The second on looks easy too. It's the same thing for an answer of 100.

It is 1,000,000/x

1000000/5000 = 200, 1000000/10000 = 100, 1000000/20000= 50, 1000000/40000 = 25

its a inverse relationship
all those numbers equal 10000000.
When one side gets bigger the other gets smaller.
therefore u have a xy=10000000 relationship.
