My best friends cousin is in a big mess. She was always known as lets say apple banana, but then when she went to get her SS card they said her name was apple peach. Somehow she got through school as apple banana. Apple peach is her dads last name and she doesn't know her dad. Her mother never talks about her dad and doesn't want her to know anything. When you get your birth certificate you need to know your name so what should she put? What I think is that if your social says peach than your birth must say peach too. Is this true? Also then how did she get through life as banana? Too confusing for me so I'll ask you. Oh yeah and all of her school IDs say apple banana but how could she get something that says apple peach if her ID says apple banana? Alsoo her mother never married her father so yeah. Please help her and my brain!!

Usually at birth your registered surname is taken as your father's surname. So, that is why she has been given the handle "peach." However, her mother obviously decided to call her by "banana." Her birth certificate will probably be in the name of "peach." She should ask her mother if she has a copy and if not apply through the registry to get a copy. The application will most likely ask for both parents' names and any names she has been known by and she will then be able to provide both fruits as information. This should get her the relevant ID and help out.
Maybe when this all blows over she can change her name to Apple Imac. LOL - Oh I am soooo funny, not.
Seriously, though, if she wants to change her name there are legal ways of doing it if she wants nothing to do with the Peaches at all.

She has what is know na common usage. If she has been using this name for at least five years EXCLUSIVELY, you just show evidence to SS that you are, indeed, Apple Banana

OR

She can go to the courts and have it changed legally, end of story

Hmm, I suggest going to the local health dept. and requesting a new Birth Certificate under each name they should be able to locate it, as well as help her find out how to fix the problem.

yeah her birth certificate would be the same as her SS, school dosent care if its ur real name or even if you are a citizen if you are in a public school grades k-12.
