Just think about how well we could secure our borders if we stopped spreading democracy and let the middle east rot under authoritarian rule like it wants.

We haven't perfected it here in the USA.
How involved is the normal person in the running of the country? Voting once every four years?
Modern democracy is an imperfect system. We should be thinking about how to strenghthen it.
But if we have to invade a country, how about Dubai? It's pretty cool.

We have two choices. Preemptive defense or offensive.
Any country that is a definite threat to us or democratic countries that are being overthrown by threatening countries.
Personally, I would love to see us draw into ourselves and protect our own country and support/protect allies.
But, there are those who want us wiped out for no other reason than because we 'are'. It is necessary to maintain watch around the world to prevent attack. And, we are country of caring people and will answer when countries cry for help. We would eventually be back in this same situation.
