Is "crap" considered a swear word?

It's all in how you use a word because "swear words" or words that are inappropriate to say are specific to the culture and person. I personally find the very idea of "swear words" to be ridiculous, but that is for a different time and place. Anywho"

If you use the word in a utilitarian manner it will be considered by almost anyone to be a perfectly acceptable word: "Considering the entire flock of pigeons above his head, it was unsurprising to see the prodigious head of Abraham Lincoln's statue covered in crap"

However, if you use it in a way that is clearly meant to express dissatisfaction:
"Crap! I lost my car keys!"
or replace a more commonly disapproved of word:
"You're so full of crap!"
you might find that people feel differently about it.

The fact that "swear words" are entirely societal constructs means that intended meaning on the part of the "swearer" and perceived meaning on that of the one hearing the "swear" are often paramount in deciding the tabooness of a word.

It is a gray word, like "manure" and "crud".

It is not a full swear word, but we know what you are trying to say

Why is the word "w.h.o.r.e" a "bad word"? People are offended at the mere utterance. But if you said "insatiable serial killer", no problem...
