It is sad but only slightly-true.

They didn't emphasize Geography or History that much when I was in high school. Only those of us who were politically or civic minded knew more, then the rest who depended on CNN and MTV for their Geography and World Culture lessons.

It sad when my Canadian cousins are more enthusiastic about America History then I am. I'm one of the few 19 years old that do watch PBS and their wonderful American Experience Series Program.

Still, I am proud to be an AMERICAN, and I can show you where on the map we are located. NORTH WESTERN HEMESPHERE: North American Continent -- the country under Canada, above Mexico. IN GOD WE TRUST! Land of the free, home of the brave! :-)

Abyssmal public education which is receiving greater levels of funding than ever in order to maintain a ridiculously inefficient and ineffective system. (courtesy of the taxpayer)

Today's youth are often unable to write in script, perform simple math, locate states, countries, continents on maps, etc.

We are in a sad state. Money is never the answer, but that never stops Dems from constantly requesting more funds for another "fix" or a failed system. Talk about waste.

Bordered by the Pacific to the west and the Atlantic to the east and ...oh sorry I got carried away. Well said Red. I think I will stand at ease now. And go back to Federer & Djokovic in the US Open Men's tennis final which is in New York, New York on the east coast of the USA for all you non Canadians out there. Hey I like intelligent women. Email me maybe we should talk. ;-)

I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don't have maps and I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and the Iraq everywhere like such as and I believe they should our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S. or should help South Africa or should help the Iraq and Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future for us.

I really think that there are alot of American children that have no idea how important an education is until they get out on their own and then really wish they had appreciated the opportunities they threw away!

There are far too many who think the social aspects of school life is more important than figuring out where even their own country is on a map.

Libs don't want us to teach US History in school? It's not politically correct. It's not sensitive to other cultures.

Um, I think the Iraq, and people in South Africa, need these things."

But really, I think it's apathy. They don't give a da*n. "Can it get me my next fix? My next business deal?" Then I don't care!!!

If they got a Big Mac for knowing it they would know it!!!

So sad. When I was in 4th grade, we had weekly tests on state capitals, and we had to know where the state was located.
