Basically, a parallelogram is a polygon with two pairs of equal sides and two pairs of equal opposite angles.

Should I draw you a square, a rectangle, a rhombus? I don't know. You pick.

Imagine a rectangle.

Now, someone comes over and *leans* on it. The whole top slides over a bit, although the bottom stays in place.

It was a rectangle before, but not after.
It was a parallelogram both before and after.

a parallelogram just has to have oppostie parallel sides and have to be equal in measure. So a square or rectangle could be a parallelogram.
