i'm not sure, i have a couple ideas, but it is pretty lame to do that. yeah, lame is a "safe" word.

They don't have an answer but believe the question is interesting enough to warrant a star.

i do that occasionally. sometimes i star it because i intend on answering it, but don't feel like answering right at that moment... (like if it's an answer that requires a lot of thought and i'm not in a 'thinking' mood right then) lol so i'll star it so i don't have to search for it again when i am ready to answer it.... OR i'll star it if it was a good question, but not necessarily one that i want to answer.

I suppose because they think it's a good question, but one that they either don't know the answer or have a good answer.
Hey, if they gave ya' a star, that's good, whether they answered the question or not.
