Not since we lost six good men on our last expedition. Rumors that I ate them are completely UNTRUE, BTW.

YES! Last winter in Colorado, we had a crazy blizzard that actually shut down the whole city practically. However, we live like 3 blocks from a walmart, so we decided to snow suit it over there to see if there were actually open, and they were! It was sooooo packed, and people had seriously taken the time to dig their cars out and go on the totally dangerous roads, just to do normal grocery shopping! It was far to packed and scary, so we walked home and made snow men :)

I no longer shop at Walmart because I think they are evil (but only evil lite), but back when I did, I braved more than one mountain, especially at Christmas time. For some strange reason, every other single business in my area has the snow plow people push the big mountains to the edges of the lot. Walmart has them pushed up to the light posts all over the parking lot. What that means is that when it's really busy, approximately 1/4 to 1/3 of the parking lot real estate is taken up by snow mountains. Being a brave and stout lass, and having a 4x4 Ford, I have actually parked on those snowy peaks, simply because there was no other place to park within reasonable walking distance, meaning within 1/4 mile of the actual doors to the store.

One time, when I had actually nabbed a plum parking spot on a lake of black ice, I heard crying and screaming as I was walking toward the store. There was a snow pile which was about 20 ft. high, and at least that large in diameter up against a light post. A little girl, around 4-years-old, had managed to climb up, and wasn't able to get down. She was up there, clinging to the light post and bellowing to wake the dead. Her mother was standing at the bottom, trying to get her to slide down, but the little girl was terrified. Someone had gone into the store, and there were several guys from the staff trying to get up to her, but it was so steep no one could reach her. Salvation arrived in the form of a genuine alpinist (we have a lot of mountains around here, and in the winter, we have a lot of snow). With permission from the equally baffled police officer who had been called to the scene, he parked blocking the aisle, climbed into the back of his truck, and put on his climbing boots and crampons. He easily climbed up to the little girl and then had her hold on to his back while he slid back down on his backside, using his crampons for brakes. It was a very heroic rescue.

That was about six years ago, and I still haven't figured out how the hell she got up that nasty, steep slope.

**EDIT**

And best of luck to cremedelacreme on his attempt. Climbing without oxygen can be very dangerous!

And my sincere condolences to those who have lost members of their climbing parties. Go back in late spring or early summer, and you can usually claim the bodies.

G'day That'll be the day,

Thank you for your question.

This is one experience that I have yet to have. However, I am planning an attempt of the south col. of a Pennsylvania Walmart this winter without the use of oxygen.

Wish me luck.

Regards

No, but I have trekked across the blazingly hot, desert-like parking in the depths of summer, the bones of the less fortunate bleaching in the cart return areas

I know just what you mean. They had the Iditarod at my towns Walmart last year because of that. The cart guy still won. Go Walmart cart guys!

Yes, and I planted a shopping cart at the summit to mark the event. The shopping cart retrieval guy was a little torqued.
