Every biological creature is (as of now) bound by their own DNA. However, we may be able to engineer new organisms within a few decades.

There is no scientific evidence for the existence of a soul; it is a metaphorical construct.

I deal with this by regular efforts to get rid of "excess" DNA!

Now for a serious answer. I think that the biggest problem the human species has is not our genetics, per se, but the fact that we have learned through imitation ("monkey see, monkey do") for hundreds of thousands of years, and that we have come to ignore this fact in our belief that language and culture, relatively late additions to our repertoire as a species, are more powerful. This leads to all sorts of conundrums. Every child, sooner or later, comes to the recognition "Oh my God, I've turned into my parents." It's not genetics that I would blame so much as the fact that even when we tell ourselves that we will never acquire the behavioural traits that we don't like in our parents, our innate, hard-wired ability to learn and mimic the behaviour of others trumps that verbal resolution. I think that it's the biggest threat we face as a species.
