Roman or Russian? Are you talking about the Third Empire beliefs of the Russians?

Well if you meant Russians, you still have all the oppressive methods of the Tsars in spades. The gulags, Siberian exile, the secret police, the forced relocation of ethnic groups, and starvation as a weapon were all methods of the Tsar before they were the methods of Communists.

Essentially for the average Russian citizen it was really the same thing. There was still a ruling elite, it just was comprised of the Party instead of the Royalty. They were both totalitarian regimes that exerted a great deal of control over the lives of it's citizens.
