That's a general misconception. Generaly doctors have bad hand writing becuase they don't have time to sit and write out their notes nicely.

In some ways you could think they think they're to good to waste their time with the written word when they've done so much to diagnose the problems & fix it.
You could also think that the number of doctors per patient is greatly out numbered... so a quick scribble to get the point across is all they need & all they have time for. Understandable in ER situations.

That's a very good ?....I have often wondered the same thing.
Do they really have poor penmanship or are they just in a hurry and don't want to take the time to make it neater. Also, I have found this to be mostly true with male drs. and maybe they really have messy penmanship. I used to think that maybe they had a special class in medical school.... dr.'s penmanship 101.

they have a class in med school ! What I'd really like to know, is HOW the pharmacists know what the hell they're reading !? (Kev, I realize there are no handwriting classes in med school, but, it is true most doctors have handwriting that resembles hen scratch. It's probably from the VAAAAAAAAAAAST amounts of homework, research, etc....etc.....etc....) Still, ya' gotta' hand it to the pharmacists that understand it all !

I gather that it is sometimes deliberate so the patient needs a qualified pharmacist to decipher the drugs that they have written so you don't indulge in self medication. Also they are rushed for time.
