Any movie collection should include, "The Wizard of Oz". Some might say, "Gone With The Wind" would be a good choice and did win the Oscar for best film of 1939, but it was slated to be released in 1940, Because of the finished cut of "OZ", was released in 1939, they released "Gone With The Wind earlier than planned. Otherwise, "OZ" would have captured the Oscar by a landslide. As trivia, Judy Garland was the least paid actror/actress in that film. Additionally, "Gone With The Wind" would have won the Oscar in 1940 if it had been held back.

Aside from those, from a script and production aspect, the original three "Star Wars" movies (IV, V, VI) as well as, "Star Trek (specifically "Star Trek, The Wrath of Khan" - 1982) due to it's strong character-driven revival of the original TV series.

"Mommy Dearest" (1981) is classical and factual regarding the life of Joan Crawford, based upon her adopted daughter Christina's book (1978) of the same name.

"Brokeback Mountain" (2005) is a controversial film, but the Academy of Arts and Sciences gave it great reviews and won three Oscars, although it was nominated for eight. While the character study of the plot may not appeal to everyone, it was a moving work of art by the acclaimed director, Ang Lee based upon a mere 14 pages of a short story by Annie Proulx.

"The Lion King" is also a must have because it was not only an animated film for children, but also aspects of the story line were attractive to adults as well, due to the similarities of the genera of the Shakespearian tragedy influence. The film's musical score was written by Elton John and Ted Rice. In an unprecedented and very rare occurrence, afforded this musician composer (Elton John) to receive an Oscar for his outstanding participation and talent with his songs, "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" and "The Circle of Life". Typically musicians only win Grammy awards for their musical contribution.

Each of these films have something unique about them which is why I recommend them. They are timeless and ones that you can watch over and over.

My ten best:

10.- Malena: More than a story about a teenager becoming a man, the reference of the woman is actually the story of Italy and the role that country played in WWII. Also she is a KO!
9.- The french connection. A classic car chase.
8.- Papillon. The best jail scape film.
7.- The exorcist. The greatest horror film. The 6th sense. The second best horror film
6.-Close encounter of the 3er kind. the best are we alone in the universe movie.
5.- The James Bond 007´s films (minus. Dalton). OK its my guilty pleasure
4.- Apocalypse Now.
3.-Silence of the Lambs.
2.- Godfather I and II, and Good fellas. The bests mafia movie.
1.- Still waiting for my number one film.
